I ain’t sayin’ he’s a gold digger…but does it matter if he is?

Since the term ‘cougar’ came about there has been some confusion on the dating scene as to whether the woman in question has to have plenty of money and be willing to splash the cash on her younger lover to qualify.

The idea that cougars are by default ’sugar mammas’ seems to be a popular concept among some of the guys (although certainly not all) who hit the bars and clubs on a ‘cougar chase’, but it has been challenged by lots of  women who have modest financial means but still consider themselves to be the real deal in the cougar stakes.

We thought it would be interesting to get the perspective of a company which not only approves of the golddigger concept, they have built an entire dating business around it!

Here’s some insight from Jemima, who represents a global dating site called proudly GolddiggersUK. This is what she had to say on the subject:

“Since launching our wealthy online dating website www.golddiggers.uk.com six months ago we have noticed a considerable increase in male members using this type of online dating site. Up until recently men would be reluctant to admit that they were looking for a wealthier partner, even though it is still frowned upon for women to date for money. More apparent in this ever depreciating economic climate we could all do with some extra financial help. Young, good looking guys are joining in their 100s all searching for a wealthy and mostly older woman that will spoil and pamper them.

“You only have to take a look at some of our profiles “I’m looking for a lady who enjoys lounging about on her yacht or at her villa generally to take care of me”. These types of relationships are becoming more and more acceptable in todays’ society and not as frowned upon as they would have been a few years ago. There is even a term for a partner to have an attraction to an older person: Chronophilia. There are many examples of celebrities dating older partners take into account Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. Lily Allen who was recently seen on the arm of  45 year old art dealer James Corden, who is 22 years her senior. Kylie Minogue was recently spotted snowboarding on the French Alps with her toyboy Spanish model Andres Velencoso Segura who is 10 years her junior.

“Suprisingly more men than women would date a partner for money in a survey polled by the website. With 51% of men preferring that their date would be wealthier than themselves and more men wanting their partner to be earning over 1 million pounds a year. Just under a quarter of men would spend their hard-earned cash on designer labels and material possessions to look good so that they can entice and impress their date. Most golddigger boys would not think twice about adding £10k extra to their salary to bag them! Men also came top when judging a partner by what they drive with lots of those GuyDiggers wanting that to be a Ferrari!

“So statistics have proven that more men than women think that a rich partner would compliment their lifestyle, even though there is still many girls that would readily admit that they will only date a man for money. However you view your opinion on this often criticised relationship, men do seem to be now coming up tops at being the new Golddiggers! So after years of being tarnished with the gold digger stigma, girls you are finally being let off the hook!”

I am not wealthy or materialistic, but had pursued
    pleasure with good food, drink,excursions
    and rewarding fulfilling inner experiences.
Others are external things. I have been very frugal. I had bought men drinks as well..
    not boats houses or cars.

Equality, and life experience are a great part of this type of relationship since from reading young men’s profiles, the very young girls they are avoiding are very shallow and superficial.
